The Long Goodbye

The incandescent Archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Ted McCarrick, doing what he does best. Vaticanisti has it on the down-low that his resignation will, when offered, be quickly accepted. Stay tuned for Vaticanisti predictions of who his successor will be. If past history be our "truth barometer," you'll know before Pope Benedict.

Thus is his cheek the map of days outworn,
When beauty lived and died as flowers do now,
Before the bastard signs of fair were born,
Or durst inhabit on a living brow;
Before the golden tresses of the dead,
The right of sepulchres, were shorn away,
To live a second life on second head;
Ere beauty's dead fleece made another gay:
In him those holy antique hours are seen,
Without all ornament, itself and true,
Making no summer of another's green,
Robbing no old to dress his beauty new;
And him as for a map doth Nature store,
To show false Art what beauty was of yore.

--Shakespeare, Sonnet 68

Please Explain who this guy is and why he's resigning so I can have knowledge in my head about it.

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the intricacies of the the Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church. In brief, every Roman Catholic bishop is required by canon law, the official law of the Church, to tender his resignation to the Holy Father upon reaching the age of 75. In this case, Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, the Cardinal-Archbishop of Washington, D.C., will reach 75 years of age in the coming days. Therefore, he will have to tender his resignation to Benedict XVI. Thereafter, the Holy Father will have to decide whether to accept his resignation or to ask him to continue serving in his current capacity. We will know in the not-too-distant future whether Benedict will be looking to appoint a new archbishop in our nation's capital.

I have knowledge in my head about it now - I thought it was for a different reason though.

If I started a blog, what would it be about ?

it's 'imminent' retirement - as in 'close in time or about to occur.'

McCarrick is a politician--plain and simple. I thought your photo of him in front of the mic with papers in his hands sums up his priorities. This man knows how to blow wind.

Let's hope this is true. This amazing windbag of a prelate spouts continually - and says very little. He's always talking about his nieces and nephews - even on national television from Rome. i don't think ha has any "real" nieces or nephews at all...
Maybe he can be a character witness for the Preppie Murderer again....

Let us not be uncharitable toward politicians by comparing them to McCarrick. Some politicians actually have principles.

You people are pigs. I read, and enjoy, a lot of conservative websites, but I have never seen one where people so blithely demean a man's life of celibate service to the church.
