What's in a name?

In the wake of its announcement that Sen. Hilary Clinton will be honored with an honorary degree, just the latest in a long line of outrageous actions taken by this college, Marymount Manhattan College has been declared no longer a Catholic college by His Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan, fresh off his trip to Rome for JP II's funeral and BXVI's election and coronation. Let this be a lesson to many of the other historically Catholic colleges in this country who barely hold on to that designation, thinking that JP II wrote Ex Corde Ecclesiae for his own health, rather than for the health of the hearts and minds of those educated in these colleges. To state the obvious: the designation "Catholic" does not a Catholic college make.

Making sure there's truth in advertising is long overdue. I give Egan credit for the simple gesture of pulling away the false curtain and exposing what's really there...not something overly attractive in the case of marymount.
