He's Got Style!

Many thanks to a faithful reader that passed along these photos of His Eminence George Cardinal Pell in cappa magna and biretta at WYD 2005. The vaticanisti would be remiss not to mention the exquisitely ornamented rochet, as well. Even if fashion alone were the measure of a good prelate, this guy would be the real deal.

Of course, fashion isn't enough. Thanks be to God that His Eminence shows himself to be the real deal in his pastoral care and theological acumen, as well.

Long live Cardinal Pell!

These pictures popped up days ago on Rocco Palmo's site, where he mocked the Cardinal for not selling these lush robes in order to give the money to the poor.

The poor you will always have with you.

That's because Rocco has no sense of style. The vaticanisti are aware of this. However, we decided to include them on our site as a means to offering some corrective to Rocco's misguided disapproval of ecclesiastical fashion. Perhaps Rocco should spend less time on the internet, sell his computer, and give the money to the poor.

Apparently Rocco is himself sold out to mammon. Did you see that he posted to say he is thinking of making his site a pay site and asking his "readers"for "feedback"?

I fed back (an un-Fenelon moment):

"Poor Rocco. Only two people have bothered to comment on your solicitation for advice on the site going pay. My prediction is that even fewer people will be interested in paying for your cheap drivel.

Obviously, you spend a lot of time on the internet. Like many people in that category, you are out of touch with reality. You speak of how much people appreciate your "writing" and of your "boatload of knowledge." The truth is that people log onto your site becaue it brings some interesting, though ultimately trivial, facts to the fore - however, they find your insipid personality, groundless arrogance, and one-sided version of Catholicism to be disgusting in the extreme. Nobody is going to pay to read you - Rocco. Neither now, nor in the future. You have no future as a writer. Abandon hope. You are not incredibly knowledgeable; please don't mistake knowing some facts for having knowledge, nor having an opinion for being interesting. Everyone I talk to who checks out your site from time to time really dislikes you personally. They aren't going to fork over any cash.

Poor Rocco. When will life catch up with you and teach you that you now know nothing and that your are morally aberrant? I hope it is before you die, which, if I get my wish, will be sooner rather than later.

Rocco rules--his issues with cappas notwithstanding. Now as for mariette's picture, I must protest! (that stuff doesn't fly in this part of the country, friend...)

I have met Rocco. He's a vertically challenged little Italian kid. His demeanor is decisively gay. He struggles with a variety of emotional weaknesses. He is fragile. Pray, do love him.

Mariette, of course, struggles just to get out of bed in the morning after a late night of reading philosophy while having The Crying Game play in the background and risque images of feminine men splashed on his laptop screen. Mariette deserves, nay demands, a more superabundant amount of love.

Thanks, Vaticanisti.

Cdl. Pell is a huge favorite with me -- he is so gloriously politically incorrect. This man kick ass!! :))

I also happen to love ecclesiastical dress, so this is a double treat. :)))

but dear giuseppe . . .

you have not met mariette as you have met rocco. it is too soon to judge, though I can feel you would not judge unfairly. true, mariette cannot claim, as rocco does on his blog, that "I know" my "writings are being widely enjoyed, I know they're seen as informative and useful." Nor that, despite this high praise he bestowed upon himself, nonetheless, "believe me, I am not my own biggest fan. Not by any stretch...." Dare we say he is meriting even higher praise from others than from himself! He must be GREAT!

No, mariette cannot make these claims on mariette's own behalf. still, mariette promises you -giuseppe - that, unlike that other wreck of humanity, mariette's personality is not exhausted by what she has deigned to post online. Like an iceberg of humanity, it is the preponderance and truth that lies submerged.

enter my lair giuseppe . . . love me superabundantly . . .

Even when he's just wearing his black clerics, Cdl. Pell's got style. He spoke at Borromeo a couple of years ago, and came across as pleasantly avuncular and down-to-earth, and the fact that he has something to say -- he's a PhD in church history from Oxford -- helped too.

The sems didn't treat him quite like a rock star, but they did throng around him after his talk.

I enter your liar freely and without mental reservation. I offer you my superabundance.

Make of our hands one hand,
Make of our hearts one heart,
Make of our vows one last vow
Only death will part us now.

Make of our lives one life,
Day after day, one life.
Now it begins, now we start
One hand, one heart
Even death won't part us now.

Okay, Giuseppe and Mariette . . . Things are getting a little weird; this is a family show, after all.

Well, at least we can hope that you're just a seriously disordered personality and not a total sociopath.

Cardinal Pell was celebrating Solem Vespers for the Young Traditionalists. The Cappa Magna was borrowed as I was the rochet.

On a 'Catholic' discussion board in Australia this picture was published and the howls of outrage against Cardinal Pell could be heard across the land. One would have thought that it was the end of civilisation as we know it.

As for selling the cappa I wonder if there is much of a market for that much red material?

Should have read as I imagine was the rochet.

Sounds as though the Australians are as stylistically-challenged as Rocco . . . .

I too, am no fan of Rocco's personality, ego or other downfalls, but the guy CAN write and he does have a sense sorely missing from the rest of the mainstream population. He may be short, gay and prissy (I have never met him) but he's still a gifted writer who deserves a little more respect than the nipples piercings are giving him.

That said, Pell in all his lack of true fabulousness needs only something new and blue to be the real bride he plays on stage.

As a friend recently pointed out re: the cappa...do they have irons in Cologne?

Well, look closely at the pic accompanying Mariette's posts ... looks like a short gay young italian dude to me... with maybe a fright wig on.

Anyone remember the Gore Vidal novel "Myra Breckinridge" and its sequel "Myron?"

Sainte Chopin,

I would have thought that you would express the idea you are apparently trying to convey by saying that, judging based upon my frame, my sex "looks to be" doubtfully large. Instead, you tell me that my sex "looks" doubtfully large, which causes me to think that you have been viewing it in your imaginings. Gosh - you make me blush.

No, I am just toying with you, little saint. Truthfully, your theory is not one that had ever occurred to me since nothing in my experience had suggested it. But perhaps, keeping to the subject of size, it is my data set that is not large enough. I defer to your greater knowledge.

When will the Vaticanisti post again and bring to an end this sad line of commentary by means of which mariette and friends have brought low an otherwise elevated enterprise - this illustrious blog?

Agreed. Mariette cum Rocco is a freak of nature with too much time on its hands. Surely there are other blogs to bore.

Mariette mascarades as a variety of different individuals. Trust me. The picture is not authentic and aside from his svelt figure, he bears absolutely no resemblance to it. I hate to disappoint, but this very bizarre character he has created is just that, a bizarre creation. He is not a sexual deviant. Rather, Behind this facade is quite an innocuous young man. He seems to be deriving some type of pleasure from your confusion. Your projections about his identity, lifestyle and fate do nothing but amuse him.

Disregarding his utterly absurd profile, does he not sound like someone who once wrote under the name vaticanisti? Think about it, dears. I think some of you once knew him personally.

Naturally, he knows who I am as well and will condemn me to hell, as he has so many times. I hope he can forgive me one day, until then, I timidly await his wrath.
